Meet Mary Gleason, MD, FAPP, she is a pediatrician and child psychiatrist at CHKD, and the Vice Chief of the CHKD Mental Health Program.
I'm mary market Gleason. I'm the vice Chief of Mental health at Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters and vice chair of Pediatrics at Eastern Virginia Medical School. I came to see HKD to be part of a team. This team is focused on building the best possible care for Children from prevention to intensive intervention. At the impatient level, there are lots of great hospital systems around. But what we know here is we get to start from scratch, meaning we're building around what Children need and what families need rather than what already exists. I'm also excited because this team is mission driven. This team wants to serve Children and everything about our decisions keeps Children and families at the center. I am thrilled about CHK DS new Mental health hospital. Uh this hospital is actually more than a hospital. It's a mental health system. We're looking at serving the needs of Children with intensive needs who need in patient hospitalization, Children who have intermediate needs who need partial hospitalization or intensive outpatient. We're working on expanding and enhancing our outpatient services substantially so we can uh meet Children early in their illness and provide ongoing care after they have received more intensive treatment. And what I'm really excited about also is that we're thinking about how to bring mental health promotion and prevention into the community at the pediatric primary care level and even into non medical settings. It's a really exciting opportunity to build a whole system of care. I think the other thing is that this state of the art program is going to be a tremendous educational environment for medical students, pediatric residents, uh child and adolescent psychiatry fellows. We also are excited about our training opportunities for psychology, social work. We'll have an interdisciplinary team of trainees and faculty ready to serve the needs of Children. This is the Children's hospital. That means everything about the health system. Everything about our colleagues focuses on the needs of Children and their families. It's a unique perspective in the world, and I'm really excited to be part of it.
