Chapters Transcript Video The Importance of Children's Mental Health Dr. Mary Margaret Gleason, Vice Chief of CHKD Mental Health talks about the importance of Children's Mental Health. Yeah, mental health is the part of health that allows us to have feelings and experience them, organize our reaction to strong feelings, build relationships. It's how Children can function when Children have mental health problems. It gets in the way of all of those activities functioning and families learning in school, being able to build up your relationships and participate in extracurricular activities. And it causes suffering. Most of these mental health problems don't get better on their own. And so what we need to do is to offer Children and families tools skills therapy and sometimes medication to address their medical conditions, their mental health problems so that they can function uh and to the best of their abilities, learn, make friends uh and build relationships.
