This recognition underscores CHKD’s commitment to deliver exceptional surgical care to every patient, whether they need simple outpatient procedures or complex reconstructive surgeries.

In this case, the verification comes from the American College of Surgeons and level one is the highest level level one centers must demonstrate they can provide quality care to patients that may only need simple surgical treatment to those with very complex medical conditions who require multi specialty care present the highest risk for anesthesia and require the closest post surgical monitoring. The children's surgery center verification process is an extensive quality improvement program of the American College of Surgeons. The American College of Surgeons has identified resources needed for hospitals to achieve the best possible outcomes for children's surgical care. Hospitals can apply for verification. Begin the process of showing the American College of Surgeons through extensive data submission and on site visits that they meet those standards. How long has CHKD been a level one surgery center? And how many children's hospitals carried this designation? CHKD was among one of the first hospitals in the nation to achieve level one verification for pediatric surgical care from the American College of Surgeons in 2019. And today, there are only about 60 hospitals that have this prestigious designation in the United States. We have maintained that designation since our initial application, we were recently reviewed and awarded level one status again in 2022. This will last until 2025 when we will apply again.
